We're letting Maya take the lead in terms of solid foods. Sometimes she shows great interest in eating "real" food, other times not so much. When we can, we let Maya pick up tiny pieces of soft food and feed herself. We offer her food once a day right now. She still nurses on demand and she still nurses as much as she ever did.
Mmmm. Banana.
The exciting video:
Steamed carrots are fun!
"What the..... ??"
"Ok, carrots aren't that bad."
Mmmmmm. Carrots.
Steamed broccoli was a huge favorite, but since it's rather tough on the tummy, we have to limit it!
Maya is now 6 months old. Already! Her first little tooth popped through and the second is working its way out. In the last two weeks she's suddenly like a different baby - playing with everything, spending more time in independent play, rolling over a bit (she can do it, she just doesn't seem that interested), almost sitting, and vocalizing quite a bit more than she used to.
We took a day trip into Manhattan last weekend to meet up with some friends and go to the Bodies exhibit.
We met at a bar (a baby in a bar!) before the exhibit. It was rainy and incredibly windy out so we took refuge indoors for a bit.
There was no photography allowed inside the exhibit, but Maya fell asleep for half of it. After we were done we relaxed in the lobby area waiting for the rest of our friends. Maya and daddy hung out.
And then Gina got her hands on Maya. Maya was fascinated with her necklace and flashed her smiles like crazy.
Then we all grabbed some food next door. Maya sat in a restaurant high chair for the first time. She played with her toys and read a book while we ate.
Most of the gang:
The next day was solid foods day! Maya's first food was a very ripe, mushy banana.
Before daddy started his new job, we decided to take a trip to visit Grandma and Grandpa Schwarz near Buffalo. We had a great flight out and arrived Saturday afternoon.
Checking out Buffalo as we made our descent.
Enjoying the airplane:
Maya took a nice nap when we arrived, and then we foolishly attempted to go out to an early dinner. Maya wasn't having it, so mom and grandma took their dinners to go and got Maya down to bed. She was MUCH happier in the morning.
Hanging out with Grandma early in the morning while the boys slept was one of her favorite activities. Grandma had all sorts of cool toys and books! The wipes package was pretty neat, too.
We decided to take Maya on her first sled ride! We had to get all bundled up first, though. It was very cold in East Aurora.
There's a smile under that pacifier.
We couldn't tell if she liked being in the sled, or if she was just putting up with it.
The park was beautiful!
Here's some video of our walk:
Maya got a little fussy at the end of the ride so we switched to the carrier as we looked at some of the sheep and llamas before heading out to lunch.
Our lunch spot was perfect. We had yummy soup and sandwiches and hot drinks to warm up. Oh yeah, and everyone gazed at Maya while munching.
After a nice nap, Grandma made us dinner. Mom used the Ergo to keep away the evening fussies.
Maya got to experience a high chair for the first time. But not just any high chair - a vintage one! She loved having all her toys within her reach and promptly dropped them all on the floor one by one.
Here's Maya enjoying the high chair, and daddy about to enjoy some chowder:
And playing with grandma:
Then she got ready for a nice bath in the kitchen sink.
Mom and dad are funny when they use props.
And when they make Maya look funny.
Sunday we walked into town and checked out a great toy store, where Maya (and mom and dad!) got some new books. We also went to Vidler's. We could have spent all day there!! Maya got some more new books. Maya slept a lot of the time in the Ergo, so after our outing we decided to grab some lunch out.
Maya took it all in and did well being out for so long.
Our trip home Tuesday was very nice. Jet Blue is our new favorite airline, due to the crazy amount of leg room for daddy, the TVs, and because they gave us all three seats in our row instead of just the two we paid for. We can't wait to come out again!
- grabbing everything she can and putting it into her mouth - rolling from back to side - sitting with some support - sitting alone in a high chair - babbling "mamamamamama" and smiling when mom says "say MA-MA" - banging her toys - going down for naps and bed at night very quickly by being rocked in the glider for a few minutes - getting ready to not be swaddled for sleep - she does well now with one arm out - she loves funny noises, especially animal noises like meowing, barking, peeping like a chick, etc. - she still loves being carried around in a carrier - we use the Ergo most - she loves animals - she wants to pet Stanley so bad, but he's not a fan of how she "pets" him - she still loves to have books read to her and will pay attention for 4 or 5 books at bedtime - she still takes relatively short naps, sometimes 30-45 minutes long, but she usually has at least one nap of at least an hour. She can handle about 2 hours of being awake before needing a nap.
